Recap: Manzano Monarchs vs. Capital Jaguars
The Manzano Monarchs's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their third straight defeat. They fell just short of Capital by a score of 64-62. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game last Friday (55), Manzano still had to take the loss.
When it comes to explaining why Manzano lost, one person who can't be blamed is Shane Erni. Despite the final result, he dropped a double-double on 22 points and 11 rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Erni has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Estevan Gonzalez, who scored ten points along with two steals.
Manzano has been struggling recently as they've lost 12 of their last 13 matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-15 record this season. As for Capital, their win bumped their record up to 13-8.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Manzano will take on Los Lunas at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. Los Lunas will roll in looking for their sixth straight victory, something Manzano surely won't give up without a fight. As for Capital, they will look to defend their home court on Thursday against Rio Grande at 7:00 p.m. Capital is on a three-game streak of home losses, Rio Grande a four-game streak of away losses, but someone's luck is about to change.
