Preview: Newington Nor'easters vs. Middletown Blue Dragons
After three games on the road, Newington is heading back home. They will take on The Middletown Blue Dragons at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Newington comes in on a streak of failing to score more than 12 points in their last three games, a trend the squad is of course eager to reverse.
Newington fell victim to Windsor's stalwart defense on Friday and couldn't make it onto the board. They took a serious blow against the Warriors, falling 42-0. While losing is never fun, Newington can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Connecticut football rankings (they are ranked 101st, while Windsor is ranked 12th).
Meanwhile, Middletown entered their tilt with Wethersfield with two consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with three. Middletown secured a 18-13 W over Wethersfield on Friday.
Newington's defeat was their fifth straight on the road, which dropped their overall record down to 1-5. That rough patch could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 9.4 points per game. As for Middletown, their win bumped their record up to 3-3.
Newington came up short against Middletown when the teams last played back in October of 2022, falling 54-49. Can Newington avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
