Basketball Recap: Denver South Comes Up Short

Denver South and Northfield faced off in a cross-town battle on Friday. The Denver South Ravens were beaten by the Northfield Nighthawks 75-31. While losing is never fun, the Ravens can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 98th, while the Nighthawks are ranked 35th).

Denver South's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Abriella Garcia, who posted 11 points and three steals, and Alex Gehring, who earned seven points.

LaPorsha Allen had a dynamite game for Northfield, dropping a double-double on 21 points and 16 rebounds. With that strong performance, Allen is now averaging an impressive 8.7 boards per game. Aliyah Herron was another key player, going 5 for 12 on her way to 18 points and three steals.

Denver South has been struggling recently as they've lost five of their last six contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 8-7 record this season. As for Northfield, they now have a winning record of 7-6.

Denver South will head out on the road to challenge Vista PEAK Prep at 7:00 p.m. on January 31st. As for Northfield, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 52-40 victory against Monarch on the 25th.
