Softball Recap: Elyria Triumphs

Elyria hadn't done well against North Ridgeville recently (they were 0-7 in their previous seven matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Wednesday. The Pioneers skirted past the Rangers 7-5. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Pioneers have posted since March 24th.

Braylee Beckham spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered five earned runs on seven hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Alexis Poulos and Ja'Nyiah Pierce did most of the damage at the plate: Poulos went 2-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double, while Pierce went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases and two runs. Those two stolen bases gave Pierce a new career-high.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Elyria kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least ten hits in three consecutive games.

Elyria's victory bumped their record up to 9-5. As for North Ridgeville, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 5-5.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming matchups. Elyria will head out to challenge Avon Lake at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Shoremen have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 10.62 runs per game on average), something the Pioneers will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for North Ridgeville, they will head out on the road to square off against Midview at 4:45 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Rangers 3.5, the Middies 3.2) so any runs scored will be well earned.
