Basketball Game Preview: Fremont Tigers vs. Bellevue West Thunderbirds

The Fremont Tigers will head out to face off against the Bellevue West Thunderbirds at 7:15 p.m. on Friday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.

Last Tuesday, Fremont was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap as they fell 67-61 to Bellevue East. The Tigers have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Meanwhile, Bellevue West entered their tilt with Bellevue East on Friday with four consecutive wins , and they'll enter their next game with five. They blew past the Chieftains 76-56. Given the Thunderbirds' advantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska basketball rankings (they are ranked 15th, while the Chieftains are ranked 126th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Bellevue West's win came from a few key players Fremont will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Jacob Coyer, who went 6-for-8 to rack up 14 points and seven rebounds. He continues to improve, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. Robert Garcia was another key player, dropping a double-double with 15 points and 11 boards.

Bellevue West smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 20 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive boards they've posted since back in December of 2024.

Fremont's defeat dropped their record down to 10-13. As for Bellevue West, they pushed their record up to 14-7 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road.

Fremont was dealt a bruising 89-49 loss at the hands of Bellevue West in their previous matchup back in February of 2021. Can Fremont avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
