Baseball Game Preview: Maple Mountain Golden Eagles vs. Wasatch Wasps

For the second straight game, Maple Mountain will face off against Wasatch. The Golden Eagles will head out on the road to take on the Wasps at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday. Maple Mountain is coming into the match hot, having won their last seven games.

On Tuesday, Maple Mountain made easy work of Wasatch and carried off an 11-1 win. Considering the Golden Eagles have won 11 contests by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

Maple Mountain got a great performance from Kavyn Carter as he tossed five innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. Carter has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two walks any time he's pitched this season.

On the hitting side, AJ Thomas was incredible, firing off two home runs, five RBI, and three runs while going 3-for-4. Those five RBI gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Cy Chrisman, who went 1-for-2 with one home run and two runs.

Maple Mountain lost a few balls and finished the game with four home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.

Maple Mountain's victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 17-1. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games. As for Wasatch, their loss dropped their record down to 12-6.

Thursday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Maple Mountain has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .445. However, it's not like Wasatch struggles in that department as they've averaged .465. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
