Preview: Powhatan Indians vs. Midlothian Trojans
Powhatan is 7-2 against Midlothian since September of 2014, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. The Powhatan Indians will be playing in front of their home fans against the Midlothian Trojans at 7:00 p.m. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the pair posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.
Last Friday, Powhatan won a contest that couldn't have been any closer, slipping by Cosby 33-32.
Matthew Layman and Matt Henderson were among the main playmakers for Powhatan as the former threw for 299 yards and two touchdowns and the latter picked up 157 receiving yards and two touchdowns. Ben Whitver also helped out with an impressive 81 receiving yards.
Meanwhile, everything went Midlothian's way against Richmond City School of the Arts on Friday as Midlothian made off with a 38-12 win. Midlothian's offense checked out after the first half but had enough points banked to take the game anyway.
Their wins bumped Powhatan to 3-3 and Midlothian to 5-1.
Things could have been worse for Powhatan, but things could have been a whole lot better as they took a 30-14 loss to Midlothian when the teams last played back in October of 2022. Thankfully for Powhatan, Ashby Berry (who rushed for 154 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 8.6 yards per carry) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result? There's only one way to find out.
