Baseball Game Preview: Great Crossing vs. DuPont Manual Crimsons

Great Crossing will square off against the DuPont Manual Crimsons at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Great Crossing is coming into the game hot, having won their last six games.

On Thursday, Great Crossing sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 10-9 win over Bryan Station.

Great Crossing got a great performance from Parker Covington as he pitched 4.1 innings while giving up just one earned (and five unearned) runs off four hits. The dominant performance also gave Covington a new career-high in strikeouts (three).

At the plate, Caden Howland was a standout: he got on base in three of his four plate appearances with three stolen bases and one run. Another player making a difference was Chase Little, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.

Great Crossing always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .621. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Bryan Station only posted an OBP of .394.

Meanwhile, DuPont Manual came up short against DeSales on Tuesday and fell 11-6.

DuPont Manual saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jacob Sanford, who went 2-for-3 with four RBI. Johnny Willen was another, earning two runs and two stolen bases.

DuPont Manual's loss dropped their record down to 8-11. As for Great Crossing, they pushed their record up to 11-2 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home.

Saturday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Great Crossing has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .490. However, it's not like DuPont Manual struggles in that department as they've averaged .454. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
