Softball Recap: Benet Academy Takes a Loss

Benet Academy blew Mother McAuley out of the water the last time the pair played, but on Monday Mother McAuley got their revenge. The Redwings fell just short of the Mighty Macs by a score of 4-2. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat the Redwings have suffered since March 21, 2024.

Gianna Cunningham spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and two unearned) runs on seven hits and racked up six Ks.

At the plate, Benet Academy saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Alaina Rosner, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with one RBI. Another was Sophia Kowal, who went 2-for-3 with one run and one double.

Benet Academy is on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 4-10. As for Mother McAuley, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 6-8 record this season.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Benet Academy will host Lyons at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Mother McAuley, they will welcome Montini Catholic at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
