Basketball Recap: Portsmouth Trojans vs. Chesapeake Panthers

Even though the Portsmouth Trojans have not done well against the Chesapeake Panthers recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. Portsmouth enjoyed a cozy 59-44 victory over the Panthers. The victory made it back-to-back wins for Portsmouth.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Portsmouth to victory, but perhaps none more so than Deandre Berry, who scored 20 points along with seven assists and seven rebounds. Berry is on a roll when it comes to points, as he's now scored 17 or more in the last eight games he's played. isaiah lewis was another key contributor, scoring 13 points.

Portsmouth's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 11-5. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 63.0 points per game. As for Chesapeake, their loss ended a five-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 12-5.

Portsmouth won't have much time to rest: their next game is against the Senators at 7:30 p.m. on February 3rd. Portsmouth West will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Ohio Rankings (they are ranked 514th, while the Trojans are ranked 174th). As for Chesapeake, they will head out on the road to face off against the Dragons at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Fairland knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past four matches -- so hopefully the Panthers like a good challenge.
