Game recap

Santa Margarita (Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif.) beat Jordan (Long Beach, Calif.) 35-6 on the strength of a superb game by dual threat quarterback Johnny Stanton, who threw two touchdown passes while running for two more.

After taking the lead on Stanton's touchdown pass in the first quarter, the Eagles led 14-6 at the half.

Santa Margarita expanded its lead to 22 points entering the fourth quarter. SM scored once in the quarter on Stanton's touchdown run.

The Rancho Santa Margarita school entered the contest giving up only 14.0 points per game. The Panthers came in giving up 9.0 points per game this season. Jordan struggled against the Eagles's offense, which entered the game scoring 27.0 points per game. Last season's game between the teams also resulted in a 56-0 win for Santa Margarita. JHS's lone touchdown came on a 5-yard run by Leula Finau in the second quarter.

SM is now on a 2-game winning streak, as it beat Brophy College Prep 27-14 last week. The defeat comes as a step back for Jordan, which notched a 65-9 victory over Poly in its previous outing.

In a non-conference game tilt next week Jordan (1-1) takes on Upland, and Santa Margarita (2-0) will go up against Trabuco Hills in a non-conference game.
