Baseball Recap: Marana Find Success

It was a proper cat-fight when Marana duked it out with Desert Ridge on Friday. The Tigers skirted past the Jaguars 5-4. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Tigers.

Marana got a great performance from Brandon Collings as he tossed six innings while giving up just one earned run off six hits. Collings also tossed a walk, which is notable because the Tigers are 2-1 when he allows at most one walk, but 6-12 otherwise.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Connor Ellis, who scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. Marana is undefeated when Ellis posts two or more runs, but 5-13 otherwise. Cody Johnson was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI.

Marana's record is now 8-13. As for Desert Ridge, their loss was their third straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 6-14.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Marana will challenge Sunnyside at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. The Tigers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Blue Devils have averaged an impressive 6.3 runs per game this season. As for Desert Ridge, they will take on Highland at 6:00 p.m. on Monday.
