Softball Recap: Battle Ground Academy Has No Trouble Against Grace Christian Academy

It was a proper cat-fight when Battle Ground Academy took on Grace Christian Academy on Tuesday. The Wildcats put the hurt on the Lions with a sharp 9-2 victory. Considering the Wildcats have won nine games by more than six runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

Khloe Burton made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits (and only one walk). She has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with one home run and two RBI.

In other batting news, Battle Ground Academy got a massive performance out of Ella Fruechtemeyer, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-4. The dominant performance also gave Fruechtemeyer a new career-high in doubles (two). Another player making a difference was Lauren Atkins, who scored two runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-3.

Battle Ground Academy kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Grace Christian Academy only managed four hits.

Battle Ground Academy has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-9 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.8 runs on average over those games. As for Grace Christian Academy, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost ten of their last 12 contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-13 record this season.

Battle Ground Academy will head out to face off against Harpeth at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Wildcats are facing the Indians at the right time seeing as the Indians are stuck on a three-game losing streak. As for Grace Christian Academy, they will look to defend their home field on Thursday against Zion Christian Academy at 5:00 p.m. The Lions' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Eagles have averaged an impressive 9.3 runs per game this season.
