Millington Central takes loss despite strong efforts from Ayanna Ransom and Alana Whiten

Recap: Millington Central Trojans vs. Jasper Vikings

It was a good run, but the Millington Central Trojans unfortunately witnessed the end of their five-game winning streak on Saturday. They lost to Jasper on the road by a decisive 75-59 margin. While losing is never fun, Millington Central can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps's basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 183rd in Tennessee, while Jasper is ranked ninth in Alabama).

Millington Central's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Alana Whiten, who scored 13 points, and Ayanna Ransom who scored 13 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Ransom has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Kaitlyn Holmes, who scored eight points.

Jasper was led to victory by Mia Hollingsworth and Missy Odom. Hollingsworth scored 19 points along with eight rebounds and seven assists, while Odom scored 24 points along with eight rebounds and three steals. That's the first time this season that Hollingsworth pulled down eight or more rebounds. Another player making a difference was Hallie Harrell, who scored 13 points.

Millington Central's loss dropped their record down to 9-7. As for Jasper, they are on a roll lately: they've won 13 of their last 14 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 17-4 record this season.

Millington Central on the road again on Monday and play against Newton at 11:00 a.m. on January 15th. As for Jasper, they will take on Ramsay at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday.
