The Lancaster Red Devils will head out to take on the Middlesex Chargers at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Lancaster's pitching crew has only allowed four runs per game this season, so Middlesex's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
Tuesday just wasn't the day for Lancaster's offense. They might be feeling deja-vu: they lost 10-0 to Strasburg, which was the same score (and result) they got the week prior. The Red Devils have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Middlesex, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Saturday. Everything went their way against Colonial Beach on Tuesday as they made off with a 29-10 win. The high-scoring effort was just what the Chargers needed considering they were shut out in their previous contest.
Lailah Baylor made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over 4.1 innings while giving up just one earned (and nine unearned) runs off four hits. Baylor was also big at the plate, getting on base in four of her five plate appearances with four runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Middlesex got a massive performance out of Aniyah Billups, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. Billups also got a hit, marking her first of the season. Kyla Blazek was another key player, going 3-for-4 with three runs, three RBI, and one stolen base.
Middlesex hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least four batters in four consecutive games.
Lancaster's loss dropped their record down to 8-3. As for Middlesex, their record now sits at 2-5.
Everything went Lancaster's way against Middlesex in their previous meeting last Saturday, as Lancaster made off with a 10-0 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Red Devils since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
