Softball Game Preview: Midland Legacy Rebels vs. Frenship Tigers

Midland Legacy hasn't had much luck against Frenship recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. Midland Legacy will be playing at home against Frenship at 6:30 p.m. The two teams each escaped (but just barely!) with wins against their previous opponents.

Midland Legacy will bounce into Tuesday's game after beating Midland, who they had gone 1-8 against in their nine prior meetings. Midland Legacy narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past Midland 5-3. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Rebels.

Payton Brooks spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and two unearned) runs on six hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in ten consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Aliyah Valdez and Taylor Martinez did most of the damage at the plate: Valdez scored a run while going 3-for-3, while Martinez went 1-for-3 with three RBI and one double. That's the most RBI Martinez has posted since back in February.

Meanwhile, Frenship had already won 12 in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 6.3 runs) and they went ahead and made it 13 on Friday. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 4-3 W against the Bulldogs. The game was the first time the Tigers have beaten the Bulldogs on their field since April 22, 2022.

Frenship pushed their record up to 17-2 with the victory, which was their sixth straight on the road. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.3 runs over those games. As for Midland Legacy, their victory bumped their record up to 14-8.
