Basketball Recap: Southern School of Energy and Sustainability Snaps 22-Game Streak of Wins at Home

Southern School of Energy and Sustainability entered their contest against Carrboro on Tuesday without any home losses, but there's a first time for everything. The Southern School of Energy and Sustainability Spartans fell to the Carrboro Jaguars 52-48. The Spartans were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Jaguars earlier this season, when they won 55-40.

Several Spartans players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Aliyah Herndon, who almost dropped a double-double on nine points and nine rebounds. With that strong performance, Herndon is now averaging an impressive 2.2 blocks per game. Jakayla Palmer was another key player, putting up 11 points along with six assists and four steals.

Even though they lost, Southern School of Energy and Sustainability smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 19 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in 47 consecutive games dating back to last season.

It was another big night for Summer Lee, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and 13 boards for Carrboro. The matchup was Lee's third in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Yazmin Paisant, who went 5 of 12 en route to 10 points.

Southern School of Energy and Sustainability's defeat ended a 22-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 14-3. As for Carrboro, the victory was the seventh in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 9-5.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Southern School of Energy and Sustainability will take on Durham School of the Arts at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Carrboro, they will challenge Vance County at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
