Football Recap: Southport Takes a Loss

Southport extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to 12 on Friday, dropping them down to 0-2. They were outmatched by the Perry Meridian Falcons and fell 41-0. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Cardinals of the 42-12 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in November of 2024.

Emanuel Brandon threw for 46 yards on two of seven attempts. Jeremiah Stanovic was his top target, picking up 48 receiving yards. On the ground, Riley Matlock rushed for 40 yards.

As for Perry Meridian, the win got them back to even at 1-1. The high-flying offensive performance was a huge turnaround for they considering their six-point performance the match before.

Perry Meridian got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Jackson Schoch out in front who threw for 324 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 13.0 yards per attempt. Those 324 passing yards gave Schoch a new career-high. Perry Meridian also got a significant boost from Tristan Ling, who ran away from the competition to the tune of 94 yards.

Southport and Perry Meridian will both get their first taste of in-conference action in their upcoming games. The Cardinals will face off against rival Columbus North at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Meanwhile, Perry Meridian is set to take on their familiar foe Franklin Community at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
