Baseball Recap: Lawrence Academy Comes Up Short

Lawrence Academy dropped their record down to 6-4 on Wednesday, which also ended the team's three-game streak of wins. They came up short against the Roxbury Latin Foxes, falling 11-3. The Spartans were not able to make up for their loss to the Foxes from their previous meeting back in May of 2024.

Lawrence Academy got a good showing from John Paone, who struck out eight batters over 3.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits (and only one walk). Paone has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks any time he's pitched this season.

On the hitting side, Lawrence Academy saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Charlie Beauregard, who went 1-for-4 with two stolen bases. Beauregard is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last four games he's played. Laz Giardina was another, getting on base in two of his three plate appearances with one stolen base and one run.

As for Roxbury Latin, the win (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 9-3. Their hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

On Roxbury Latin's side, James Gibbons looked comfortable as he pitched 3.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Matt Taglieri, who went 1-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base. Those two runs gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Braden Place, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double.

We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. Lawrence Academy will challenge rival Milton Academy at 3:45 p.m. on Saturday. Meanwhile, Roxbury Latin is set to take on their familiar foe Governor's Academy at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Foxes 3, the Governors 3.2) so any runs scored will be well earned.
