Baseball Recap: Newbury Park Beats West for Their Fifth Straight Win

Newbury Park waltzed into their game on Wednesday with four straight wins... but they left with five. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 4-3 W against the West Warriors.

Luke Medhurst was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching five innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off five hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with two RBI.

In other pitching news, Davis Trudeau looked comfortable as he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. That's the fewest hits he has allowed since back in March of 2024.

Back at the plate, the team relied heavily on Owen Meli, who scored two runs and stole Two bases. while going 1-for-3. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games he's played. Cole Munyon was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two stolen bases.

Newbury Park pushed their record up to 5-1 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.3 runs over those games. As for West, their loss ended a six-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 4-4.

Looking ahead, Newbury Park will take on Granada Hills Charter at 3:30 p.m. on Monday. As for West, they will look to defend their home field on Friday against Redondo Union at 3:15 p.m. The last five games West has played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.
