Softball Recap: Friday's Defeat Ends Berkshire's Winning Streak

Berkshire dropped their record down to 9-5 on Friday, which also ended the team's five-game streak of wins. They took an 8-5 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Garfield G-Men. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Badgers of the 13-3 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in April of 2023.

As for Garfield, the win (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 8-7. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.8 runs on average over those games.

For Garfield's part, Juliana Genovese made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Genovese was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two RBI and one run. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April of 2024.

In other batting news, Kolby Fresch was a standout: she went 2-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. That's the most hits she has posted since back in May of 2024. Emily Knerem was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two runs, two doubles, and one RBI.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Berkshire will square off against Jefferson Area at 5:15 p.m. on Monday. The Badgers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Falcons have averaged an impressive 7.6 runs per game this season. As for Garfield, they will challenge Windham at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. The G-Men are facing the Bombers at the right time seeing as the Bombers are stuck on a five-game losing streak.
