Football Recap: Tamarius Brown and Isaiah Atkinson Pace Red Springs Defense

Red Springs was the 38-12 winner over South Brunswick when they last played one another back in August of 2018, but their luck changed this time around. The Red Devils took a 40-36 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Cougars on Friday. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game two weeks ago (35), the Red Devils still had to take the loss.

When it comes to explaining why Red Springs lost, don't look at Chase Boone. Despite the final result, he threw for 403 yards and three touchdowns while completing 96% of his passes, and also rushed for 80 yards and a pair of TDs on only nine carries. Boone is becoming a predictor of the Red Devils' success: when he posts at least 250 passing yards the team is 2-1 (and 0-3 when he doesn't).

Red Springs didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Tamarius Brown and Isaiah Atkinson.

Edward Young continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for South Brunswick, picking up 122 receiving yards and three scores. With that strong performance, Young is now averaging an impressive 100.7 receiving yards per game. Another player making a difference was Jayden Daniels, who threw for 246 yards and four TDs on only 17 passes.

Red Springs' defeat dropped their record down to 2-4. As for South Brunswick, the win (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 4-2.
