Baseball Recap: Portage Central Triumphs

Portage Central came into Monday's matchup having lost three straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past the Portage Northern Huskies 4-2. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Mustangs also won the last time the pair played back in May of 2024.

Portage Central got a great performance from Noah Klein as he tossed six innings while giving up just two earned runs off seven hits. The dominant performance also gave Klein a new career-high in strikeouts (five).

On the hitting side, Portage Central saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Scotty Brown, who went 1-for-2 with one run.

Portage Central's win was their first in the league, bumping their league record up to 1-8 and their overall record up to 7-18. As for Portage Northern, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 11-18-1 record this season.

Portage Central will have a chance to go back-to-back against Portage Northern: the pair will be back at it again later today.
