League recap: Tarboro extends winning streak with victory over Spring Creek

1A Conference 9 recap November 19, 2013

Tarboro added to the longest winning streak in 1A Conference 9 this week by beating Spring Creek, 52-0. This was the team's sixth consecutive win.

Rocky Mount Prep lost to Southeast Halifax 62-0 last week, the largest margin of any game.

Riverside's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Clay Wagner threw for 146 and 2 touchdowns and Ross Byrd had 56 yards receiving. On the ground Jeremiah Wilson contributed 163 yards. Wilson helped Riverside's passing attack out by catching 2 balls for 34 yards.

Wilson was a passing and rushing force as Riverside defeated Perquimans. Wilson's key target this week was Byrd, who caught 2 passes for 56 yards.

Daniel Everett was a key player and the best on defense this week as Asim McGill's team bested the Pirates. The 6-foot-3 senior nabbed 1 interception and racked up 1 sack.

Wagner put up the best numbers in passing as Riverside topped Perquimans.

5-foot-10 quarterback Wagner of Riverside is the league leader in passing yards this season with 1,154. He has also thrown 12 touchdowns. The leading receiver in the league this season is Romalik Parker. The South Creek star has 23 catches for 463 yards.

Wilson of the Riverside is just 98 yards short of surpassing 1,000 rushing yards for the season. Wilson has rushed for 902 yards on 101 carries so far this year.

Tarboro led the league in scoring this week by notching 52 points on the Gators. Radja Bobbit ran for 126 yards in the win.
