Baseball Recap: Joston Lewis and Maddox Brown Secure Win for Webster County

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Braxton County, Webster County was happy to have turned things around on Thursday. Their pitchers stepped up to hand the Montcalm Generals a 10-0 shutout. The Highlanders not only won on Thursday, but they posted their biggest win since April 18th (when they won 16-5).

Maddox Brown and Joston Lewis made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Brown struck out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). Meanwhile, Lewis pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in 11 consecutive appearances. At the plate, Brown got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one run and one double, while Lewis earned one run and three stolen bases. Webster County is undefeated when Lewis posts two or more stolen bases, but 4-12 otherwise.

In other batting news, Logan Brown and Hayden Myers did most of the damage at the plate: Brown went 2-for-3 with five stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI, while Myers got on base in all three of his plate appearances with five stolen bases and three runs. That's the most runs Myers has posted since back in April. Ryder Miller was another key player, earning one RBI, one run, and two stolen bases.

Webster County always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .571. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Webster County's win bumped their record up to 8-12. As for Montcalm, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-14.

Coming up, Webster County will look to defend their home field on Friday against Richwood at 6:00 p.m. The last three games the Lumberjacks have played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one. Montcalm does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
