Emelia DelCarmen spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and two unearned) runs on six hits and racked up 11 Ks. She has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts any time she's pitched this season.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Stuarts Draft). They blew past Staunton 23-2 on Thursday. Considering the Cougars have won six contests by more than five runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.
Karlee Layne and Addyson Dameron were major factors no matter where they played. Throwing, Layne pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Dameron tossed three innings while giving up just two earned runs off five hits. At the plate, Layne went 3-for-4 with three runs and two RBI, while Dameron went 3-for-4 with three runs, four RBI, and one stolen base. That stolen base was Dameron's first of the season.
In other batting news, Stuarts Draft got a massive performance out of Dakota Potter, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Those four hits gave Potter a new career-high. Addy Coyner was another key player, going 2-for-4 with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
Stuarts Draft was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .556. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.
Stuarts Draft's record is now 7-8. As for Miller School of Albemarle, they now have a losing record of 4-5.
Miller School of Albemarle suffered a grim 11-5 defeat to Stuarts Draft in their previous matchup back in April of 2023. Can the Mavericks avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
