Softball Recap: Whitney Young Drops Season-High Score on Orr

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Whitney Young). They put the hurt on the Orr Spartans with a sharp 19-0 victory on Monday. Considering the Dolphins have won ten matches by more than five runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.

Emily Rodriguez made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. What's more, she posted five strikeouts, the most she's had over her last five contests. She was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with two runs, two RBI, and one double.

In other pitching news, Claire Swanborn looked comfortable as she tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than one walk in six consecutive appearances.

Back at the plate, Chiqui Vazquez was incredible, going 1-for-2 with three runs, one triple, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Mara Finnigan, who went 1-for-2 with three RBI, two runs, and one double.

Whitney Young always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .750. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Whitney Young has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six games. That's provided a nice bump to their 18-10-1 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.8 runs over those games. As for Orr, their defeat dropped their record down to 10-2-1.

Whitney Young didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next matchup, a 16-0 victory against Hancock on the 6th. Orr does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
