Baseball Game Preview: Clark Cougars vs. Alexander Bulldogs

The Clark Cougars will square off against the Alexander Bulldogs at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday. Alexander took a loss in their last match and will be looking to turn the tables on Clark, who comes in off a win.

Clark is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They blew past Tivy 14-1 on Friday. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Cougars considering their two-run performance the contest before.

Angel Tamayo made a splash while hitting and pitching. He didn't allow a single earned run while striking out seven over four innings pitched. Tamayo was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while going 1-for-2. He is becoming a predictor of Clark's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 2-6 when he doesn't).

In other batting news, Clark got a massive performance out of Jerry Brightwell, who went 3-for-4 with four RBI, one run, and one double. Another player making a difference was Tyler Hummel, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI, one triple, and one run.

Clark always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .633. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Meanwhile, Alexander was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 6-5 heartbreaker at the hands of Cinco Ranch.

Clark is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a massive bump to their 5-6 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.0 runs over those games. Alexander's defeat dropped their record down to 6-5.
