Preview: Jefferson Dragons vs. Eastside Eagles
The Jefferson Dragons will head out on the road to face off against the Eastside Eagles at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Jefferson comes in on nine and Eastside on five.
Jefferson can now show off six landslide victories after their most recent game on Friday. They claimed a resounding 42-0 victory over Heritage at home. Given Jefferson's advantage in MaxPreps' Georgia football rankings (they are ranked 27th, while Heritage is ranked 244th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Sammy Brown continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, rushing for 121 yards and three touchdowns on only ten carries, while also picking up 34 receiving yards. Gavin Markey was another key contributor, punching in a rushing score.
Meanwhile, Eastside stacked a fifth blowout onto their ever-increasing hoard on Friday. They breezed by Winder-Barrow on the road to the tune of 56-3.
Eastside found their leader in underclassman Payton Shaw, who threw for 165 yards and two touchdowns while completing 76.5% of his passes. Another player making a difference was Cameron Griffieth, who rushed for 63 yards and a touchdown.
Jefferson's win was their fifth straight at home, bumping their overall record up to 9-0. As for Eastside, their victory bumped their record up to 7-2.
Everything came up roses for Jefferson against Eastside when the teams last played back in November of 2022 as the team secured a 35-7 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Jefferson since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
