Baseball Recap: Hampden Broncos vs. Oxford Hills Vikings
Hampden couldn't beat Oxford Hills on Monday even though they stacked five runs on them in the third inning. The Broncos fell just short of the Vikings by a score of 9-8. The Broncos were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Vikings apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in May of 2024.
Kaysen Wildman was huge no matter where he played even without the win. On the mound, he tossed six innings while giving up just two earned (and four unearned) runs off eight hits. What's more, he gave up only one walk, the fewest he's had since back in May of 2024. He was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.
In other batting news, Andrew Cote made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and got on base in three of his five plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Aidan Hulsey was another key player, getting on base in two of his four plate appearances with one stolen base and one run.
Hampden now has a losing record of 1-2. As for Oxford Hills, their win (their first of the season) made their record 1-2.
