Softball Recap: Laurel's Run of Four Straight Victories Now Over

Laurel dropped their record down to 7-4 on Friday, which also ended the team's four-game streak of wins. They took a 6-2 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Neshannock Lancers. The matchup marked the Spartans' lowest-scoring game so far this season.

Laurel saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Ivy Pancher, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one RBI. Pancher has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times she's played. Lexi Krol was another, going 1-for-2 with one stolen base and one run.

As for Neshannock, the victory keeps they at an undefeated 12-0. The team's perfect season has a lot to do with their hitting performance: the team's won by an average of 9.6 runs thus far.

On Neshannock's side, Addy Frye spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered two runs (both of which were unearned) on four hits and racked up 13 Ks.

On the hitting side, Payton Newman was excellent, going 2-for-4 with three RBI, one run, and one double. Those two hits gave her a new career-high. Ella Skodak also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.

Coincidentally, Laurel and Neshannock will both be playing Shenango the next time they take the field. The Lancers will head out to face the Wildcats at 4:00 p.m. on Friday, while the Spartans will host them at 5:00 p.m. on the 28th.
