Softball Recap: Chester Finds Home Field Redemption Against Redding Christian

There's no place like home for Chester, who bounced back after a loss on the road two weeks ago. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Redding Christian Lions a 16-0 shutout on Tuesday. Considering the Volcanoes have won nine contests by more than seven runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

Brianna Dean was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out six over five innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up a single earned run any time she's pitched this season. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with three stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI.

In other batting news, Hailey Delong was a standout: she went a perfect 4-for-4 with three stolen bases, four runs, and two doubles. Those four hits gave her a new career-high. Sophia Salazar also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen bases of the season.

Chester was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .400. They are a perfect 5-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

Chester moved to 10-8 with that win, which also ended their three-game losing streak. As for Redding Christian, they dropped their record down to 1-11-1 with the defeat, which was their ninth straight on the road dating back to last season.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Chester will welcome Burney at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Raiders will roll in looking for their ninth straight victory, something the Volcanoes surely won't give up without a fight. As for Redding Christian, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Los Molinos at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
