Baseball Recap: Mountain View Takes a Loss

Mountain View extended their losing streak to five on Saturday, dropping their season record down to 7-12 in the process. They were two runs away from ending the streak, but they lost a 4-2 heartbreaker at the hands of the Berthoud Spartans. The Mountain Lions were not able to make up for their defeat to the Spartans from their previous meeting back in March of 2022.

As for Berthoud, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-10 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.8 runs on average over those games.

For Berthoud's part, Wyatt Barmes spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered two runs (both of which were unearned) on two hits and racked up 14 Ks. Barmes has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in eight consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Berthoud saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Elisha Mosher, who went 1-for-2 with one run.

While Mountain View had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:00 p.m. on Monday.
