Baseball Recap: Palmer Comes Up Short

Palmer had lost seven straight at home, but on Thursday they dropped down to 1-15 to make it eight. They came up short against the Canon City Tigers, falling 20-0. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Tigers this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 12-0 on Tuesday.

As for Canon City, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 14-3. That 20-run margin sets a new team best for them this season.

For Canon City's part, Jacob Bell and Peter Hershberger made a big impact while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Bell pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Hershberger tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. At the plate, Bell went 1-for-4 with three runs, one triple, and one RBI, while Hershberger went 3-for-4 with two runs, two RBI, and one double. Those three runs gave Bell a new career-high.

In other batting news, Cam Roberts and Edgardo Cubero did most of the damage at the plate: Roberts went a perfect 3-for-3 with six RBI, three runs, and one triple, while Cubero got on base in all four of his plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI. Those stolen bases were Cubero's first of the season. The team also got some help courtesy of Trey Schumacher, who went 1-for-2 with one home run.

Looking ahead, Palmer will venture away from home to face off against Widefield at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Gladiators' pitching crew has only allowed 3.7 runs per game this season, so the Terrors' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Canon City, they will be playing at home against Cheyenne Mountain at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Tigers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Hawks have averaged an impressive 9.4 runs per game this season.
