Softball Recap: Lamar Comes Up Short

Lamar dropped to 12-8 on Thursday, ending the team's three-game streak of wins on the road. They lost 11-3 to the Darlington Falcons. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Falcons this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 14-1 on April 1st.

Kynley Brantley was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-3 with one triple, one stolen base, and one run. That triple marked the first that she has hit this season. Another player making a difference was Jordyn Scarbrough, who went 2-for-4 with one triple.

As for Darlington, they are on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last ten matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-3 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.9 runs over those games.

On Darlington's side, Bailey Blackmon made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run over seven innings pitched. Blackmon has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with four RBI. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Zaria Mack, who went 3-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. Emily Johnson was another key player, going 2-for-4 with three RBI, one run, and one double.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming contests. Lamar will venture away from home to square off against Great Falls at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Darlington, they will head out to take on Hartsville at 7:45 p.m. on Monday.
