Football Recap: Mater Academy East Las Vegas Wins High-Profile Match Against Sierra Vista

On Monday, Mater Academy East Las Vegas faced Sierra Vista in a battle between two of the state's top teams. The Mater Academy East Las Vegas Knights blew past the Sierra Vista Mountain Lions 34-14. That's two games straight that the Knights have won by exactly 20 points.

Cheyanne Thornhill was her usual excellent self, rushing for 97 yards and one touchdown on only eight carries, while also throwing for 229 yards and two touchdowns while completing 72.7% of her passes. That's the most rushing yards she has posted since back in January of 2024.

Mater Academy East Las Vegas is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six contests, which provided a nice bump to their 10-4 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 26.5 points per game. As for Sierra Vista, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-2.

Mater Academy East Las Vegas wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next game, a 29-12 win against Moapa Valley on the 15th. Sierra Vista has also already played their next match, a 32-12 victory against Legacy on the 14th.
