Softball Recap: Monroe Academy Starts off Right with Win over Sparta Academy

Monroe Academy had to travel to play their first game of the season, but the final result was worth the trip. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Sparta Academy Warriors an 18-0 shutout on Friday. The Volunteers haven't had any issues with the Warriors recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive win against them.

Mia Shadburn was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and only one walk). Shadburn was also big at the plate, going a perfect 4-for-4 with six RBI, two triples, and three runs.

In other batting news, Ella Grace Stabler and Mia Ramer did most of the damage at the plate: Stabler scored two runs while going 2-for-4, while Ramer scored two runs while going 1-for-2. Ayla Harris was another key player, scoring a run while going 2-for-3.

Coming up, Monroe Academy will be taking part in a tournament against Snook Christian Academy at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday. As for Sparta Academy, they will take on Morgan Academy in a tournament on Friday.
