            Basketball Recap: Avon Panthers vs. Westport Wildcats        
        
		
        
        
            Avon fought the good fight in their overtime  match against Westport  on Friday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Westport Wildcats by a score of  74-72. The Panthers haven't had much luck with the Wildcats recently, as the team has come up short the last three times they've met.

 Despite the  loss, Avon had strong showings from  Nyisah Miranda, who  dropped  a double-double with 21 points and 11  assists, and  Thomas Edwards, who  shot 55% from the field to rack up 30  points and five  rebounds. The  contest was  Edwards' 18th in a row with at least 17 points. The team also got some help courtesy of  Douglas Ateku, who  posted five  points and 11  boards.
Avon's  defeat was their first in the league, dropping their league record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 14-8. As for Westport, they pushed their record up to 12-7 with the  victory, which was their third straight  at home.
