Baseball Recap: Smithfield Comes Up Short

If Smithfield was feeling good fresh off their 19-4 takedown of Bruton on Wednesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Packers fell just short of the Lafayette Rams by a score of 4-3 on Friday. The Packers were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Rams earlier this season, when they won 8-6.

Kelson Sowden was cooking despite his team's loss, going 1-for-3 with one triple and two RBI.

Smithfield has also traveled a rocky road recently, having lost five of their last six games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 6-8 record this season. As for Lafayette, the win got them back to even at 7-7.

We've got plenty of inter-region action coming up soon. Smithfield is set to take on their familiar foe Warhill at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Meanwhile, Lafayette will square off against rival Jamestown at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
