Recap: Universal Academy vs. Wilmer-Hutchins Eagles
Universal Academy waltzed into their game Friday with two straight wins but they left with three. They were the clear victor by a 68-48 margin over Wilmer-Hutchins. Given Universal Academy's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 215th, while Wilmer-Hutchins is ranked 796th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Universal Academy was led to victory by Solomon Bradshaw and Cyrus Shaw. Bradshaw scored 18 points along with seven assists and four steals, while Shaw scored 23 points along with eight rebounds and five assists. That makes it five consecutive games in which Shaw has scored at least 25% of Universal Academy's points. Kamry Seastrunk was another key contributor, scoring 11 points.
When it comes to explaining why Wilmer-Hutchins lost, one person who can't be blamed is Dezmond Williams. Despite the final result, he scored 14 points. The matchup was Williams' 11th in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Anonio McMillon, who scored nine points along with six rebounds.
Universal Academy's win was their 11th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 4-1. They've been dominating during the matches in that stretch too, as they've won by an average of 25.18 points. As for Wilmer-Hutchins, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-9.
Universal Academy will be playing in front of their home fans against Varsity Opponent at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Wilmer-Hutchins will be staying on the road on Tuesday to face off against Seagoville at 7:30 p.m. on December 12th. Seagoville has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
