Football Recap: King Mustangs vs. Brackenridge Eagles
King was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their seventh straight defeat dating back to last season. They took a 39-29 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Brackenridge Eagles. The Mustangs were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Eagles apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in September of 2024.
Despite the loss, King still got an impressive performance from Damon Smith, who picked up 198 receiving yards and one TD. Smith really caught the secondary sleeping when he pulled down a catch that went for 71 yards. Tatum Emerson was another key player, having thrown for 340 yards and three touchdowns.
Even if they lost, King's defensive line still kept up the pressure with four sacks. Josiah Garza was especially locked on to Brackenridge's QB and sacked him twice.
King's defeat dropped their record down to 0-2. As for Brackenridge, the victory got them back to even at 1-1.
Looking ahead, King will be playing in front of their home fans against Zapata at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Brackenridge, they will challenge LEE at 7:00 p.m. on the 13th.
