Basketball Recap: Notre Dame Takes a Loss

Notre Dame lost against Calhoun back in December of 2023 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Monday. The Notre Dame Fighting Irish fell 63-55 to the Calhoun Yellow Jackets. The Fighting Irish's defeat continues a trend for the team, making it four in a row.

Despite the loss, Notre Dame still got an impressive performance from Gaas Herman, who posted 33 points. Herman's evening made it 12 games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Maximo Santiesteban, who had 16 points.

Calhoun found their leader in freshman Trace Hawkins, who went 5 of 12 on his way to 18 points and six assists. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Hawkins has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Trey Perkins, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and 11 rebounds.

Notre Dame's loss dropped their record down to 7-11. As for Calhoun, the win was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 7-2.

Notre Dame will welcome St. Andrews-Sewanee at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Calhoun, they won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Ridgeland at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
