The Pacific Grove Breakers will head out to take on the North Monterey County Condors at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Pacific Grove will be looking to extend their current five-game winning streak.
Pacific Grove let Carmel stack five runs on them in the third inning on Thursday but luckily Pacific Grove prevailed anyway. The Breakers walked away with a 10-7 victory over the Padres.
Pacific Grove let Jasmine Booker and Isis Turner run wild. Booker went 2-for-4 with one home run and two runs, while Turner went 3-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of Lilly Gaona, who went 2-for-4 with two runs and one RBI.
Pacific Grove was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .514. The last time their batting average was this high was back in February.
Meanwhile, North Monterey County had to endure a seven-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. Everything went their way against Rancho San Juan on Thursday as they made off with a 13-2 win. The Condors not only won on Thursday, but they posted their biggest win since April 5th (when they won 27-8).
Paige Ramirez made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She struck out seven batters over six innings while giving up just two earned runs off seven hits (and not a single walk). Ramirez was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases and three runs. Those two stolen bases gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, Meiha Vargas was incredible, going 3-for-5 with six RBI, two doubles, and one stolen base. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games she's played. Jazzlyn Paniagua was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two runs and one RBI.
Pacific Grove pushed their record up to 13-6 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.7 runs over those games. As for North Monterey County, their victory was their first in the league, bumping their league record up to 1-11 and their overall record up to 3-18.
North Monterey County's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Pacific Grove has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 10.7 hits per game. It's a different story for North Monterey County, though, as they've been averaging 13.6 hits. Given Pacific Grove's sizable advantage in that area, the Condors will need to find a way to close that gap.
Pacific Grove took their win against North Monterey County in their previous matchup back in April by a conclusive 10-0 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Breakers since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
