For whatever reason, it's the away team that's had the advantage when The Habersham School and Savannah Arts Academy meet (three straight games heading into this one) and that held true again on Tuesday. The Patriots skirted past the Panthers 2-1. The game was the first time the Patriots have beaten the Panthers on their court since October 2, 2018.
The Habersham School had a slow start but a hot finish: after dropping the first set, they turned around to win the next two. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 18-25, 25-19, 15-12.
The Habersham School can attribute much of their success to Betsy Kelly, who had nine digs and three aces. That's the most aces Kelly has posted over her last ten contests.
Despite the defeat, Savannah Arts Academy saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Bella Jaqua had 11 digs and two aces.
The Habersham School's win bumped their record up to 10-4. As for Savannah Arts Academy, their loss ended a 14-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 5-7.
Looking ahead, The Habersham School will take on Trinity Christian at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Savannah Arts Academy, they will face off against Winter Haven at 2:40 p.m. on the 29th.
