Football Recap: Charlestown Pirates vs. Martinsville Artesians
Charlestown and Martinsville squared off in some playoff action on Friday, but Charlestown had to settle for second. They had to suffer through a 52-20 loss at the hands of the Artesians. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat the Pirates have suffered since October 11, 2024.

When it comes to explaining why Charlestown lost, don't look at Jovon Morris. Despite the final result, he rushed for 100 yards and two touchdowns. The Pirates also got help from Addison Jones, who showed off his sure hands for 86 receiving yards.
Lucas Dewey was his usual excellent self, rushing for 152 yards and four TDs for Martinsville. Dewey has become a key player for the Artesians: the team is 3-1 when he posts at least two rushing touchdowns, but 2-5 otherwise. Chase Davis was another key player, throwing for 307 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 12.8 yards per attempt.
Charlestown's loss ended a four-game streak of away wins and brought them to 8-3. As for Martinsville, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 5-6.
Charlestown does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Martinsville, they have already played their next contest, a 49-35 win against Bedford North Lawrence on the 7th.
