Softball Game Preview: Letcher County Central Cougars vs. Breathitt County Bobcats

The Letcher County Central Cougars are taking a road trip to face off against the Breathitt County Bobcats at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Letcher County Central will be strutting in after a win while Breathitt County will be coming in after a defeat.

Letcher County Central's pitching crew heads into the game hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Tuesday. They had just enough and edged out Perry County Central 2-0. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Cougars.

The result came thanks to Scarlett Stamper's shutout, as she gave up just three hits and racked up 13 Ks. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in nine consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Letcher County Central's victory was truly a team effort as five different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Addison Collier, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one double and one RBI.

Meanwhile, Breathitt County suffered their closest loss since May 25, 2024 on Wednesday. They fell just short of Knott County Central by a score of 7-5. The Bobcats have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Letcher County Central pushed their record up to 16-9 with the win, which was their ninth straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.7 runs over those games. As for Breathitt County, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-11.

Everything went Letcher County Central's way against Breathitt County in their previous matchup back in April, as Letcher County Central made off with a 14-0 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Cougars since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
