Baseball Game Preview: Dayton Greendevils vs. Owen County Rebels

The Dayton Greendevils will face off against the Owen County Rebels at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Dayton has now lost eight straight, leaving the team hunting for their first win since the 3rd.

Dayton came up short against Highlands on Thursday, falling 23-1.

Henry County hit Owen County with a four-run second inning on Wednesday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Rebels fell 8-3 to the Wildcats. The Rebels haven't had much luck with the Wildcats recently, as the team has come up short the last seven times they've met.

Connor Dezarn was cooking despite his team's loss, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases and one run. He is becoming a predictor of Owen County's success: when he posts at least two stolen bases the team is 2-1 (and 2-5 when he doesn't). Another player making a difference was Hatcher Smith, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases and one RBI.

Dayton's loss dropped their record down to 2-18-1. As for Owen County, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-6.

Dayton might still be hurting after the 13-1 loss they got from Owen County when the teams last played back in March of 2023. Can the Greendevils avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
