The Wauseon Indians will venture away from home to square off against the Edon Bombers at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Wauseon has given up an average of 7.6 runs per game this season, but Friday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Wauseon came up short against Central Catholic on Thursday, falling 12-2. The Indians haven't had much luck with the Fighting Irish recently, as the team has come up short the last six times they've met.
Meanwhile, after only two runs in their last match, Edon made sure to put some runs up on the board against Camden-Frontier on Thursday. The Bombers put the hurt on the Redskins with a sharp 12-1 win. Considering the Bombers have won five contests by more than five runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.
Kyler Sapp was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out six over five innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in five consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. He is becoming a predictor of Edon's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 6-1 (and 3-5 when he doesn't).
In other batting news, Braedyn Wehrle was a standout: he went 1-for-2 with three RBI, one triple, and one run. Another player making a difference was Christian Owens, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs and one stolen base.
Edon was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .438. They are 6-2 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Edon is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a massive bump to their 9-6 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.6 runs over those games. As for Wauseon, their loss dropped their record down to 4-10.
Wauseon came out on top in a nail-biter against Edon in their previous meeting back in May of 2024, sneaking past 5-3. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Indians since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
