High school football: Alabama quarterback commit Julian Sayin looks next level in 2-0 start for Carlsbad

Future Crimson Tide signal caller has completed 75 percent of his pass attempts while leading his team to a pair of statement wins.

Five-star quarterback prospect Julian Sayin has led Carlsbad (Calif.) to an impressive 2-0 start this season, including a 48-14 win over defending state champion Mater Dei Catholic (Chula Vista) on Friday that was seen around the country on ESPN2.

Regarded as the No. 5 overall prospect and No. 2 quarterback in the Class of 2024 by 247Sports, Sayin completed 12 of 14 attempts for 138 yards and two touchdowns against Mater Dei Catholic. He added 63 yards and a touchdown on the ground.

Last week in a 30-6 win against Inglewood, Sayin was 24 of 34 for 185 yards and a touchdown.

Sayin was the MVP of the prestigious Elite 11 quarterback competition this summer and has carried the momentum into his senior year, completing 75 percent of his attempts with 323 yards and three TD passes. He is nearing 6,000 total passing yards in his scareer with 65 passing touchdowns.

Alabama secured Sayin's commitment last November over 25 other offers, including Georgia, LSU, Michigan, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Texas and USC.

Carlsbad is No. 2 in the MaxPreps San Diego Section computer rankings. Marquee matchups await, including games with Avocado League foes Mission Hills, El Camino and La Costa Canyon, all of which are ranked in San Diego's top 10.
