Basketball Game Preview: Sierra Stallions vs. Elizabeth Cardinals

Sierra and Elizabeth are an even 5-5 against one another since January of 2020, but not for long. The Sierra Stallions will face off against the Elizabeth Cardinals at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Sierra is looking for their season's first victory.

Sierra came up short against Sand Creek on Thursday, falling 75-49. While losing is never fun, the Stallions can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 321st, while the Scorpions are ranked 56th).

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Elizabeth). They really took it to Regis Groff for the full four quarters, racking up a 66-36 win. With the Cardinals ahead 35-13 at the half, the game was all but over already.

Sierra better keep an eye on Drake Brinkworth. He was instrumental in Elizabeth's win, putting up 11 points. The dominant performance also gave Brinkworth a new career-high in assists (two). Cohen Steinke was another key player, posting 12 points and five steals.

Elizabeth was working as a unit and finished the game with 17 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

The victory made it two in a row for Elizabeth and bumps their season record up to 4-6. As for Sierra, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-11.

Sierra came out on top in a nail-biter against Elizabeth when the teams last played back in February of 2024, sneaking past 45-43. Does Sierra have another victory up their sleeve, or will Elizabeth turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
